Child photography is my passion! I love to create a unique scene in outdoor child photography and special images for you to cherish and keep forever. To me photography can be as artistic as you want or as simple as you want. I love to create a scene with a bit of whimsy during an imagination session. A child’s mind is an incredibly magical place. What if we could make it visible?
You do not need a studio to create a unique composite photo.
You may think that you need a studio to create composites, but you do not! I mainly shoot outdoors although I do have a studio space. In fine art photography you have a whole idea in your mind before you even shoot the subject, so you have an understanding on your end goal! Depending on the unique scene you are trying to achieve will depend on what type of scenery may be idea to shoot in.
Creating a unique image during your child photography session can be fun.
I created a rain scene type portrait with my daughter, it obviously was not really raining as that would have really damaged by equipment and made my daughter unhappy standing out in the rain. What we did was chose a day that was gloomy, but not raining. I had the idea that I had wanted her playing in the stream outback of our home with her reflection in the photograph. I was going for something dark, although I did not shoot it in the actual dark. That is why we chose the gloomy day, it worked perfect when I wanted to add in a daker sky in photoshop. I had her carry an umbrella because I knew I wanted to create rain into the photo. The overall look of my photo was in the back of my mind the whole time I was choosing my specific location for the portrait.

Turning something into art with outdoor child photography
If you are shooting for a composite photo, take great notice of the type of ground you will need to blend. If the child will be standing in tall grass for the actual photo but you want them to be standing in a driveway for the composite that will not really work. Tall pieces of grass would be near impossible to remove from the original photograph.
Pay attention to lighting while creating the unique scene.
For this session I knew I wanted to create artificial lighting to really bring out the subject. Of course, I had to make sure the actual lighting of the photograph made sense as well. Be sure to pay attention to how you want the light reaching your subject. If you have an idea but the lighting does not make sense, it is probably not a good idea.

Using elements already there for an outdoor photography child session
If you are not trying to create a composite image, then I will look for things that stand out to my eye. Like bridges with specific lighting, creeks with beautiful lighting, and my favorite a beautiful overgrown path with surrounding trees and depth of field. Mostly it is all about finding the most perfect spot for the overall outcome of your shoot. Most photographers have a creative eye beyond the client who has hired you for a session. The client may not see what you see in a location, and that is fine just WOW them with the image, and they will trust you for their portraits every time! Follow me on facebook for my work!
