Becoming a child portrait photographer was an easy decision for me. I will tell you about what I looked for in inspiration as a child portrait photographer. Along with what keeps me motivated for the job and my inspiration for other photographers.
It’s not just following other child portrait photographers
When I am looking for inspiration as a child portrait photographer , I don’t just follow trends and ideas of other photographers. Yes, it is nice to be able to follow alike photographers for ideas and inspiration, but I enjoy being creative on my own and not following photography trends. Which is one of the reasons why I do not offer mini sessions. There is a big hype around mini sessions, and that is just not my thing. I like to be able to give my clients something unique and different than what others are offering. I make sure to ask my clients a ton of questions to tailor the session around your unique child.

Inspiration in my own family
When I need some inspiration as a child portrait photographer, my daughter is my go-to. Having a child of my own really helps my creative mind of what childhood and imagination should be like. As we know kids’ lives are so much fun and they shouldn’t have the worries of us adults. I try to really focus on that as my inspiration when capturing children. Catch them in their carefree moments of life before they become adults and lose that imagination. When I am capturing child portraits as a photographer, I try to tell a story with each portrait during the session.

Sometimes it comes from other things non photography related for inspiration as a child portrait photographer
I am an old soul. For me music is my gateway. When I am really looking for inspiration, I listen to music. Music has a way of taking you back to feelings, smells, and emotions. All the things I want to be able to portray in my work. When you look back at your child’s portrait session, I want you to be able to feel that moment of childhood. Remember all their little quirks and the way the talked. The sound of their laughter and the way they made you feel. This is what being a child portrait photographer is all about for me!
