If you have been following my fine art photographer journey you know that I specialize in magical fine art photography. I will give you a little behind the scenes look at just exactly what goes into editing fine art photography, after your child’s session. This is where your images come to life and turn into a classical timeless portrait to cherish forever.

Step one: Choosing the portraits that define your child’s inner and outer beauty during a fine art session.

First, I will cull through the photos from your fine art photography session. When I am going through the shots of the session, I am looking for poses that stand out to me. I look for the one that shows all the unique features your child possesses. Sometimes that can be a photo where they are not smiling but living in the moment. Once I have selected around 12-15 great shots from the session it is time to get into the magic behind it all, the editing process.

Step two: Making minor adjustments in lightroom when editing fine art photography.

Second, I will make sure the exposure is perfect for final editing in photoshop. I will use lightroom to go through and make minor adjustments like, tints, selective colors, and highlights and whites. My fine art portraits are true to life colors, with the subject the focus of the portrait. I shoot with a long focal length lens with an open aperture to create a beautiful bokeh.

Step three: Photoshop the power tool of all tools for editing fine art photography!

Finally, in photoshop is where I make all my huge adjustments! I select colors that compliment the whole session and make those pop. I go through and create a magical soft background where my subject is the focus. I work a lot with the curves layers to create that depth. I keep the color of my subject true to life and vibrant. I make sure to highlight every feature of your child and really make them stand out in the portrait. When I am creating a portrait, I do not have digital files in mind. I am creating art for your homes and printing. I want these precious times of childhood captured and frozen.

Step four: The end result

At the end of this all, the true beauty happens when your art is printed. You will be able to see and feel the magic of a fine art portrait in your home. It will be classical and timeless. I have attached a fast video of a fine art edit from a portrait session with me to watch the magic unfold before you. It is a what I see vs. what you see type of magic. Children on the porch

I absolutely loved watching Kayla so easily work with our four children and many animals! She captured our kids’ personalities so beautifully and managed the animals so easily, and that’s saying something when there’s a chicken, puppy, and two horses involved! The final prints are gorgeous; they half people in their tracks when they see the portraits on the walls. I highly recommend Kayla’s work.
