You are ready to dive into choosing a child photographer. Our children are one of the most important people in our lives. We want to capture them in their childhood before they are grown. I am sure you have done your research a bit by checking out Pinterest to look at poses, wardrobe, but have you given much thought on how to chose the best photographer?
Do you know what style you are looking for?
Make sure you know they type of style you are looking for, not all photographers work is the same. Do you enjoy depth of field, with the subject standing out? Do you enjoy a more vintage feel or a classic close to reality type portrait? I specialize in child photography, which captures a timeless piece of art! What is it that you are wanting to capture in the photos, a personality or every little detail and twinkle in your child’s face?
Finding the right child photographer for your needs is important!

Do you know if they specialize in child photography?
One of the important things to look for is if they are knowledgeable with children. My niche is in kid photography, there are many photographers that do not specialize in one certain type. You want to know if they have photographed children before. That helps you to know if they will know how to work with your child. A professional child photographer will know all the little quirks to get that authentic smile, and beautiful poses.
Choosing a child photographer can be a fun experience for everyone!

Will my child have fun and not feel forced during a child photography session?
Portrait sessions do not have to be stressful! We should enjoy the time. Make sure the photographer you chose knows how to communicate with your child and understand child body language. If your photographer is a professional with children, they will know how to just let your child be a child and capture them doing so! I also want someone who is good at communicating with me so we can talk about all our wants and needs out of the session.
As a child photographer I realize not one child is the same! They all have their own personality, moods etc. I like to engage with them find out what they love, if they like animals if so what kind? What their favorite colors are, favorite foods etc., it helps them to be comfortable with you. Most of all I let them play, capturing children playing is the easiest way to child photography! Once they get more comfortable with me, I then will ask them to pose certain ways. If they are not into, we do not force them to do things they do not want to do!
